Dr. Eileen Van Aken

Team-Based Work Systems

Dr. Eileen Van Aken is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Enterprise Engineering Research Lab, in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. She earned her B.S. degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She also earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Her interests in research, teaching, and working with industry include organizational transformation, team-based work systems, performance measurement, and quality management. She has given numerous presentations and workshops in these areas, and has authored or co-authored over thirty papers. Organizations she has worked with include AT&T - Consumer Billing Operations, Kollmorgen, Kaydon Corporation, Vinten, Inc., Harris Corporation, Litton Industries, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Prior to joining the ISE faculty at Virginia Tech in 1996, she was employed for seven years at the Center for Organizational Performance Improvement at Virginia Tech, and was also employed by AT&T Microelectronics in Richmond, Virginia where she worked in both process and product engineering.

She is a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the American Society for Quality, American Society for Engineering Management, IEEE Engineering Management Division, the Association for Quality and Participation, and the American Society for Engineering Education. She is also an Examiner and Board member for the U.S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award for Virginia.
