Chris Turnbull

General Overview

Chris Turnbull brings business continuity management expertise to the D´Ardenne Associates team as part of a new joint venture with The Becher Agency to help our clients better prepare for interruptions of their critical business.

Under this unique arrangement, D´Ardenne taps into Chris's extensive business continuity and crisis management experience. During his previous career as the Senior Business Continuity Officer responsible for Global Operations at the World Bank, Chris assisted the organization in developing and implementing a business continuity management program from the ground up. He has witnessed the evolution of business continuity best practices turning into a British Standard and ultimately an ISO standard. In addition to planning, he has first-hand experience enacting those plans. Chris has personally responded to more than 100 interruptions or potential interruptions of business in scores of countries as well as in the United States.

Known for his practical approach to problem solving and his calmness under pressure, Chris has helped senior executives manage crises and business interruptions ranging from power outages and cyber threats to natural events and terrorist attacks. His business continuity work has been formally recognized by his peers and managers nine times during his tenure at the World Bank. He has led training sessions on crisis leadership and business continuity for the senior leadership of the World Bank Group in the United States, France, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Sudan and in 27 other countries, mostly in the developing world. He was also an integral member of the World Bank Group Emergency Management Team.

His experience includes conducting risk assessments and business impact analyses, creating business continuity strategies and plans and developing and monitoring the overall business continuity management lifecycle. He especially enjoys showing how business continuity management tools can improve an organization's risk management program.

Education

Chris earned a bachelor's degree from Roanoke College and a master's degree in management from University of Maryland. He is a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP).
